Manchester United came out of the syllabus in the recent clash against Liverpool. The Arne Slots team was able to steal a point in a dramatic encounter between them. This was the first for both of them in the new year. Anfield has been a fortress for Liverpool, as they haven’t conceded a goal against Manchester United in their home match for a long interval of time.
Though the draw had a minimum effect on the points table, as from the expected 8-point lead, Liverpool made it up to 6, and Man United just retained their 13th position after drawing their match just after 3 continuous losses. Lisandro Martinez began the goal-scoring in the second half as the first half remained goalless. Cody Gakpo and M. Salah (penalty) helped Liverpool gain their 2-1 lead, but a goal from Amad Diallo at 80′ made it 2-2. A draw for United still keeps them on a winless streak in away games for the 10th match in a row. Though an irrelevant stat, Man. United has scored 2 goals, which equals the amount of goals they scored in their previous 10 Anfield visits.
Now coming to individual performances in the match, Liverpool has to face their major attack on the left side, as Trent was the most vulnerable player throughout the match. Leaving the left side defenseless while Konaté had to cover the entire center-back position made Manchester United very easy to score against. Conor Bradley had more impact on the game in his possible 15 minutes than Trent in his total 80 minutes on the pitch. Gakpo once again came as a savior in the initial phase as he had looked in the past in many matches. Salah is still sitting in the top position with the most goals.
Liverpool could have lost it all in the dying seconds of the match as Harry Maguire slammed a shot just past the top post and went into the crowd in front of Allison. After the thrilling adventure of Premier League football, we will have a break for the EFL Cup and FA Cup for all divisional teams. Liverpool will face Tottenham in their semifinal first leg for the EFL Cup in Hotspur Stadium, and then they have a match on 11th January against Accrington for the FA Cup.
That’s all for today, thanks.
