La Liga, officially known as LaLiga EA Sports for sponsorship reasons, is Spain’s top professional football league. Controlled by the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional, it consists of 20 teams competing in a 38-match season. Since its inception, 62 teams have played in La Liga, with nine clubs winning the title. Real Madrid leads with 36 championships, followed by Barcelona, which has dominated since the 1990s with 17 titles. Other champions include Atlético Madrid, Valencia, and Deportivo La Coruña.

As of the 2024/25 season, La Liga ranks third in UEFA’s coefficient rankings, behind the Premier League and Serie A. However, it has historically been Europe’s strongest league, holding the top spot 22 times between 1959 and 2019. Spanish clubs have won the most UEFA Champions League (20), Europa League (14), and Super Cup (16) titles. La Liga players have also won the most Ballon d’Or awards (24).

La Liga is one of the world’s most popular sports leagues, with average attendances of 26,933 in 2018–19. It is the third most-watched football league and the seventh wealthiest sports league globally. Sponsored by Electronic Arts, La Liga continues to be a dominant force in world football.
